Baby In Rajasthan Is Born With An Extra Head Attached To Her Stomach

Indian mythology has many characters with multiple heads. Ravana the Demon Lord had 10 heads; Brahma the god of creation had three heads and so on. In reality too due to various medical conditions babies are born with an anomaly. Parasitic Twin is a condition where one of the babies is completely developed from fetus stage whereas the other is dependent and feeds on the first for nutrition and is not fully developed.

Recently in the Indian city of Jahazpur in Bhilwara district of Rajasthan state, India a 21-year old woman delivered a baby with medical anomaly at Ram Snehi Hospital that astonished everyone as the baby had an extra head protruding out of stomach with underdeveloped arms. During ultrasonic scanning, the woman was informed that she had twins getting developed in her womb but unfortunately the baby was born with a parasitic twin. The baby was delivered by Caesarean section and the parasitic twin growing from the stomach had completely developed head with ears, nose, mouth, and eyes.

The doctors said the situation demanded immediate surgery to separate out the parasitic twin from the fully developed baby to save its life as the underdeveloped twin was relying on the other for food and nutrition. The baby was taken to JK Lone Hospital in Jaipur covering a journey of 300 miles.

A team of pediatric surgery headed by Dr. Pravin Mathur carried out the surgery successfully to save the life of the baby and mother. And according to Dr. Mathur, this is one of the rarest examples of the parasitic twin. According to him, Parasitic twins are born when embryo produces twins, but in utero, the babies will not get separated during development. He also revealed that it took a hurricane task to convince the parents to oblige for the surgery.  According to doctors the baby is recovering quickly and has started best feeding.

Instances of such twins get reported rarely and a similar case was reported from Côte d’Ivoire in West Africa where the 11-month baby was successfully separated from its parasitic twins and handed over to parents.

Most importantly for Abdul Kalam Fan Club team, the baby’s good health condition is of utmost importance and in both the above cases speedy recovery of both the newborns is happy news to everyone.
