How a Facebook Post Rescued A Retired School Teacher Who Was Begging At Railway Station

There’s a beautiful quote with regards to teachers which goes something like this – “They may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel”. This quote suits well for this story as the students of Valsa teacher came running to Thiruvananthapuram after learning that their teacher was found roadside abandoned by her family members. Yes, this story of a teacher who was found on the roadside by Vidya M.R., a computer assistant at the secretariat office of Thiruvananthapuram is going viral on internet not for the fact that she was found abandoned but for the fact that students came out to support her to such an extent that many were keen to take her to their homes to look after her. This gesture by her students reveals how good a teacher she was and how she had made her students feel.

It was November 5th when Vidya went to Central Railway Station to meet her friend when she saw an old lady wearing dirty clothes was holding polythene bags in her hand. Out of curiosity, Vidya started following her and soon the lady went near a tree to pluck the fruit to eat. This sight moved Vidya who offered to buy her some food asking, “Are you hungry?” “No” was the immediate response from the old lady.

Though she had refused to accept the fact that she was hungry, Vidya could not let her see starving and hence bought her idli and vada to feed her. After initial reluctance, she accepted to eat it and soon Vidya started a conversation with this old woman. As the conversation progressed Vidya came to know the fact that she was a retired teacher and also about her residential address.

Vidya was moved by her story and wanted to help the old lady somehow, hence, she uploaded the old lady’s photo on Facebook along with the description given by her. Vidya hoped that the post would reach at least one or two people who could identify and offer help to her. Minutes after uploading the information online, Vidya’s cell phone started ringing with one call or the other asking details about the old lady. The ones who were making the phone calls were students of Valsa teacher who used to teach Mathematics at Islamic Public School, Malappuram.

Vidya says she received several calls inquiring about the lady in the picture and all were concerned as to how could they offer help to their teacher. Some of the students who were in Abu Dhabi and Malaysia also called up to offer help. A few of her students who were from Malappuram also called Vidya to inform that they had left for Thiruvananthapuram to take their teacher back with them. Vidya was overwhelmed with the response she got and says that she was touched by the love students had for their teacher.

The post went so viral on the internet that the district administration and also corporation took note of the condition of Valsa teacher and made arrangements for her stay at Sayahnam, an old age home run by the corporation. Valsa teacher who is presently staying at Sayahnam has refused to go with her students and is waiting for her son to take her home. The district authority noted that she was disturbed by the turn of events and has arranged for her treatments to bring her back to normalcy.

Vidya’s efforts have brought a big change in the life of an abandoned teacher, who earlier was begging for food at the railway station is now staying a safe place in the old age home and also has met many of her students who have come searching for her.

As Valsa teacher is reluctant to go with anybody but her son and husband, the police are searching for her relatives. As per reports, this is a case of abandonment and probably that incident has had a massive impact on the teacher who is now waiting to reunite with her son.

The story does reveal the fact that if you are a good human being and have done good deeds in life, no matter what situation you are in, people will surely come to offer help to you. This story of students coming out in large numbers to help their abandoned teacher is winning hearts over the internet and is making everyone believe that Humanity is not lost yet.

Do share this amazing story with all your contacts to make them realize the magical powers of humanity.
