Savji Dholakia – 4th Standard Drop out is an Entrepreneur of 6,000 Crore Business and is Bound to Make His Employees Millionaires


“To do more for the world than the world does for you—that is a success,” said Henry Ford about the measuring scale for a successful person. Often we find numerous success stories, but not all successful ones have a mindset to give back to the society that nurtured their growth. Here is an aberration from a usual lot in the form of Mr Savji Dholakia, fondly known as Savji Kaka in his business circle. He dropped out of school at the age of 13 in pursuit of having a better lifestyle than the one bestowed upon him in a typical farming family of drought-prone areas of Gujarat to work in the diamond processing plant. He later went on to become one of the top finished diamond exporter from India with the business of 6,000 Cr. The most exciting part of his story lies in the manner in which the human resource at his disposal is cared for. He has gifted approximately 400 flats and 1200 cars to his loyal employees and shared his profit with co-workers, which is a rare sight to be seen among prominent business houses. Childhood Days

Savji Dholakia was born in on 12 April 1962 in a village called Dudhala, Amreli district of Gujarat. He was born in a farming family and had no access to rich-life style, and his father was unable to bring his kids by pampering them. Savji as a young boy craved for a better lifestyle but the farming community background failed to provide him with the same, so he decided to start earning by leaving the school. Finally, at the age of 13, he quit school by facing his father’s stiff opposition. His strong desire to succeed took him to Surat and got employed as Polishing Worker in one of a Diamond centre with which his uncle was associated. Though the paltry salary he earned from this job could suffice his food and shelter needs, he was unable to save anything. But the rich experience gained by working for diamond finishing plant strengthened his desire to have his own diamond export centre in future.


All set to go Independent…

In the year 1984, by teaming up with two of his brothers Himmat and Tulsi, Savji started his own Diamond Polishing unit. Obviously fierce competition in the field posed them unexpected challenges, and they received trickling orders. But Savji brothers managed to keep the show running, and in the year 1992 he managed to expand his company and named it as Hari Krishna Exports Pvt. Ltd. Since then the company has grown manifolds and by the year 2014, the company witnessed a growth of Rs. 400 Cr. and company employee strength reached 6000.

The Expansion Mode…

Having obtained in-depth knowledge of processing Diamonds, Savji ventured into manufacturing finished products like Diamond Jewellery through H.K. Designs and Unity Jewels. He has associated with Kisna Diamond Jewellery a Pan India brand distributor selling the jewellery to 480 distributors with 6500 retail outlets. Currently, His company exports finished diamonds to nearly 50 countries from Mumbai. It has affiliate partners in UAE, US, Belgium, Hong Kong and China.

Unbelievable Employee Welfare Schemes

Savji Dholakia is well known for not only his business acumen but his big-heart that has immense love and care for his employees. Every year during the Diwali Festival, he awards a bonus to the employees that include Apartments, Cars and Diamond Jewellery. In the year 2014, he gave away 491 cars, 525 diamond jewellery and 200 apartments for meeting the target. In the successive year of 2015 he gifted valuables to 1268 employees, and in 2016 he gifted 400 flats and 1260 cars. The year 2017 definitely has got a bonanza in the store. He claims that any business can’t flourish without a dedicated team and it is his responsibility to look after the team’s needs.  Also, Savji makes it a point to take the elder members of his employees’ family to vacation outings so that the family gets refreshed and will be able to give 100% at work.

His motto about Human Resource Management is simple:

“Once you have taken care of basic needs of your family, which I feel is having your own house and car, you can focus and give 100% to work. I want my employees to give their 100%. And, that’s why I want them to be free of worries of meeting necessities,” – as told to Hindustan Times

Savji Dholakia has installed a unique software that not only monitors the quality of work rendered by employees while cutting and polishing the diamonds but it also monitors their relationship with other employees and family members so that the overall happiness index of his workers get registered.

Savji Dholakia is happily married to Gauriben S Dholakia and has two daughters Mena, Nimisha and son Dravya.
