Many couples pray to million gods to get blessed with children. Also, it is a common belief across the globe that children are God’s gift. But here is a heart-breaking incidence of parents abandoning their newborn on the superstition that it has witch characters and a heartwarming incidence of a Danish woman Anja Ringgren Loven living in Africa rescuing him and nurturing him to be a healthy boy and calling him by a meaningful name called “Hope”.
Though happy ending a common phenomenon in movies once in a while real life incidences also culminate happily. This story of Hope starving for food on streets to a healthy looking boy getting ready to go to school is one such positive news to all of us.
In Africa thousands of children are being accused as witches and killing of these children on these allegations has become common practice among many communities.
Organizations like UNICEF, UNHCR and Human Rights activists have taken various steps to support such children.
But Anja Ringgren who is the Aid worker and founder of The African Children’s Aid Education and Development Foundation in year2013 has put her entire life behind the rescuing and upbringing of this boy Hope. She adopted him and gave him mother’s affection. She took him to the hospital to get medication to remove the worms from his stomach and for blood transfusions.
After one year, Hope has literally given ‘Hope’ to everyone related to him directly or indirectly with the healthy boy who was an unhealthy toddler starving with hunger a year ago. Anja Loven is not alone in this mission and her husband, David Emmanuel Umem supports her to run a children’s center so that the children are given access to medical supplies, food, clothing, shelter, and schooling.
It is appropriate to recall an emotional Facebook post, written by Anja which says— “On the 30th of January 2016 I went on a rescue mission with David Emmanuel Umem, Nsidibe Orok, and our Nigerian team. A rescue mission that went viral, and today it’s exactly one year ago the world came to know a young little boy called Hope. This week Hope will start school.”
